Clovis Recreation Youth Programs

The City of Clovis Recreation offers 5 sessions of youth programs.  The following list is the start and end dates for this years sessions:

Winter           January 10, 2015 - March 7, 2015

Spring            March 23, 2015 - May 16, 2015

Summer I     June 1, 2015 - July 25, 2015

Summer II    August 10, 2015 - September 3, 2015

Fall                 October 19, 2015 - December 19, 2015

 

The City of Clovis Recreation offers two types of youth programs, youth leagues and youth camps.  The various youth leagues have regularly scheduled practices during the week and games on the weekends. The youth camps meet once a week and work on the fundamentals of that particular activity.   The youth programs take place at the Clovis Recreation Center (3495 Clovis Ave.). All of the youth programs have a mandatory parent meeting prior to the program starting, and all participant registrations are due prior to the parent meeting.  Registrations will only be taken after the parent meeting if spots are available.

Spring Youth Programs March 21, 2015 - April 18, 2015


Tiny Tumblers​

April 4, 2015 - May 9, 2015

Mandatory parent meeting on April 1, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Clovis Recreation Center.

Saturday's     9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Tiny Tumblers is an introductory tumbling class for children ages 3-7. Participants will have the opportunity to develop essential motor skills. The participants will practice on somersaulting, rolling and balancing in a safe and fun environment. The cost for this program is $50. With your registration fee you will receive 6 weeks of instructed program, a program shirt and a completion certificate. 

 

Start Smart Baseball

April 4, 2015 - May 9, 2015

Mandatory parent meeting on April 1, 2015 at 6:30 PM at the Clovis Recreation Center.

Saturday's     10:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Start Smart baseball is a parent child baseball/softball program for children 3-6 years old.  Each week children will work on the 4 basic fundamentals of baseball/softball, hitting, running, throwing and running the bases. The program prepares children for organized tee ball, baseball and softball in a fun non-threatening environment. The cost of this 6 week program is $50, each participant will receive a tee shirt and a completion certificate. 

 

Spring Girls Volleyball league

March 23, 2015 - May 16, 2015

Mandatory parent meeting on March 18, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the City of Clovis Recreation Center.


This girls volleyball league is for girls grades 3rd-4th and 5th-6th and teaches the fundamentals of volleyball in a league setting.Participants will receive 2-practice session per each week plus a 3 set game on Saturdays. Every participant receives equal playing time each game and all games will have a certified referee. All the teams will play in a season ending Tournament. The fee for this league is $115, each player receives a team uniform, practice shirt, team picture and tournament awards.

Youth Indoor Soccer Camp

March 28, 2015 - May 16, 2015

Mandatory parent meeting on March 26, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Clovis Recreation Center.

Session II    Wednesday's 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

The 8 week Indoor Soccer Camp helps participants develop fundamental soccer skills such as shooting, passing, dribbling, and receiving, in a safe and fun environment. Participants will meet once a week and practice progressive drills, with a qualified recreation leader. We will offer two divisions 1st-3rd and 4th - 6th grades. The cost of this 8 week program is $65, each participant will receive a tee shirt, certificate and a soccer ball.

 

Youth Basketball Camp

March 28, 2015 - May 16, 2015

Mandatory parent meeting on March 26, 2015 at 7:30 PM at the Clovis Recreation Center.

Session II    Tuesday's 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

The 8 week Youth Basketball Camp helps participants develop fundamental basketball skills such as shooting, passing and dribbling, in a safe and fun environment. Participants will meet once a week and practice progressive drills, with a qualified recreation leader. We will offer two divisions 1st-3rd and 4th - 6th grades. The cost of this 8 week program is $65, each participant will receive a tee shirt, certificate and a basketball.

Future Youth Programs

Start Smart Soccer- $60/ child

Start Smart Soccer is a developmentally appropriate introductory soccer program for children 3-5 years old.  The program prepares children for organized soccer in a fun non-threatening environment.  Start Smart Soccer prepares children and their parents for organized soccer without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt.

Age appropriate soccer equipment from Franklin Sports® and Kwik Goal® is used to teach kicking, dribbling, trapping, throw ins and agility.

Youth Indoor Soccer League - $110/ player

This youth league is for kids ages 6-11* and teaches fundamental soccer skills in a league setting.  Participants will receive 1-practice each week and a 40-minute game on Saturdays.  Every participant is guaranteed a minimum of 15-minutes playing time in each game. All age divisions will play a full court game with qualified referees.  All the teams will play in a end of the season Clovis Cup Tournament.

Start Smart Basketball - $50/ child

Start Smart Basketball teaches children (ages 3-5) the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents.  The program focuses on teaching children and their parents skills in dribbling/ball handling, passing/catching, shooting and running/agility without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt.  Each child will receive a program shirt and a start smart work book. 

This program meets on Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM for 6 weeks, and each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement.

 

Tiny Dribblers - $80/ Child

Tiny Dribblers is a 8-week instructional league, which helps 5 year-olds understand and break down the game of basketball.  Participants will have one practice a week in which they will work on the fundamental skills with a volunteer coach.  Modified games will take place on Saturday mornings.  Each participant will receive a team shirt, team picture and a participation ribbon.  This program will not be possible without volunteer coaches.  No basketball experience is required.  If you are interested in coaching a team please contact the recreation section at 559-324-2780.  

City of Clovis Youth Basketball League - $115/ player

This youth league is for kids ages 6-12* and teaches fundamental basketball in a league setting.  The 8U group will practice on Monday and Wednesday for one hour each.  The 10U will practice on Tuesday and Thursday for one hour each.  The 12U will practice for two hour on Friday. The practice time will be between 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  Each team will get a  40-minute game on Saturdays.  Every participant is guaranteed a minimum of 20 minutes playing time in each game. All age divisions will play a full court game with qualified referees.  All the teams will play in a end of the season March Madness TournamentYour registration fee will get you a full team jersey, a practice tee shirt, a team picture and awards for the end of the season tournament.  ***  This program will not be possible without volunteer coaches.  If you are interested in coaching a team please contact the recreation section at 559-324-2780.  No basketball experience is required to coach a team.***

***  If you are trying to figure out which age group you child should play in?  The cut-off date for this program is the participants age as of January 1, 2015.  The 8U participants will be 6-7 yrs old as of January 1, 2015.  The 10U participants will be 8-9 yrs old as of January 1, 2015.  The 12U will be 10-11 yrs old as of January 1, 2015.***

*Any child who is 12 must still be in the 6th grade in order to participate.
