Suspect Arrested After Shooting and SWAT Callout

At approximately 10:00 PM on 3/24/17, Clovis Police received a 911 call regarding possible shots fired with an injured person in the front yard of a residence on Acacia near First St. Officers arrived within two minutes, contacted the victim, and determined the suspect was still inside of the home. After officers arrived on scene, an additional shot was fired from the suspect. The injured male was turned over to EMS and was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his hand.  Officers contained the situation until SWAT arrived. After several announcements by our SWAT team and Negotiators, the suspect exited the home and was detained without further incident.

Detectives and Crime Scene personnel were called out to investigate the circumstances. Acacia Ave between Sierra Ave and 2nd St was closed for several hours, however all streets are back open at this time.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect and victim knew each other, and were involved in a physical altercation when the victim was shot. Detectives arrested 31 year-old Daniel Fankhauser for one felony charge of assault with a firearm, and one felony charge of negligent discharge of a firearm. Fankhauser has been booked into the Fresno County Jail. The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

We would like to thank the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department and the Fresno Police Department for assisting our Department with this incident.
