Clovis Police Crackdown on Sex Offenders Failing to Register
Clovis Police are looking for two registered sex offenders, who have failed to register as required by law with the police department. They are 24-year-old David Frankhauser and 50-year-old Daniel Campos.
Within the past three months, police detectives have arrested four sex offenders, who have failed to register. One of those men, 49-year-old Michael Sanchez, not only did not register, but also moved three times without notifying police. Sanchez, a felon with convictions for lewd and lascivious acts with children under the age of 14, faced four counts of failing to comply with the law. Late last week, he accepted a plea deal of four years in prison.
The reason Clovis Police detectives are going after those who fail to register is to keep children and adult citizens safe. The law requires registration under the Child Molester Identification and subsequently Megan’s Law, both enacted in the mid-90s.
As you may recall, Megan's Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed by a known child molester who had moved across the street from the Kanka family without their knowledge. In the wake of the tragedy, the Kankas sought to have local communities warned about sex offenders in the area. The law is not intended to punish the offender, and specifically prohibits using the information to harass or commit any crime against an offender. However, registrants must remain in compliance with the law.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Frankhauser or Campos, you’re asked to call the Clovis Police Department at (559) 324-2800.
